Why Different Now? . Why different now and not the same? From childhood friends,
then one day changed. I see her yet I cant imagine What happened to our hearts and brains. ~ Our images
quivering in the river Both she and I are hardly known. Yet across so small a space delivered A more lovely person
is now forever grown. ~ As children oft we played together Each day was sunshine filled with joy. She was my best
friend and I hers also. Who knew she was girl and I now boy? ~ Then something like a cover lifted And from her
bosom grew such swell. In awe I watch and also risen To find new urges hard to quell. ~ My heart now races as
I see her; My mouth so dry, though waters near. I once could talk with her forever. Yet now no words seem to reach
our ears. ~ So down I look to view our being And contemplate this awful threat How can I speak and not look
foolish This is my fearful, quiet regret. ~ (So soft she sits in silent splendor Her skin like peach fuzz ripe
to kiss That shall I ever dare to find there The heart so dear of the friend I miss?)
